Obie Delores
Roberson-Sheets
Jul 10, 1932 — May 17, 2024
Mrs. Obie Delores Roberson Sheets, age 91, passed peacefully from this life on May 17, 2024, to go and be with the Lord. She was born on Sunday, July 10, 1932, to the proud parents of Flemon and Mable Roberson in Grimes County, Shiro, Texas. In 1942, the family moved to Bryan, Texas, and united with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in 1943 under the direction of Reverend U.S. Keeling.
After graduation from E.A. Kemp High School in 1951, Obie attended Bishop College in Dallas, TX to study music; during a summer break from Bishop College, she volunteered to be a Candy Striper at St. Joseph Hospital and then decided she wanted to be a nurse. In June of 1958, Obie received her Diploma & License for Vocational Nursing from Prairie View A&M University. On July 9, 1958, she began working at St. Joseph Hospital as a labor & delivery postpartum nurse in the nursery until her retirement on July 30, 1994.
Obie Roberson married Eddie B. Smith, Jr. and to this union two children were born, Eddie B Smith, III & Lovie Diane Smith. While Obie was attending Prairie View A &M University, she met Emerson A. Sheets, they united in marriage and to this union four children were born, Nettie Rochelle, Beverly Delores, Karen Varee, and Michael Emerson. Obie had an enormous love for people, music, and babies; being an only child and her love for children is why she decided to have a large family.
Obie was a hard worker and a smart worker, an asset she received from her dad. She grew up in the church and got her family involved in the church when her children were young. She taught her children how to sing and play the piano, each one of them would sing or play various instruments in their own perspective ways. Lovie, Nettie, & Beverly would take over and play piano for their mom when she was not available.
She was a wife, a mother, and a church musician for three churches: twenty plus years at New Zion Baptist Church & Roans Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and forty-eight years at Galilee Baptist Church. After her retirement from St. Joseph Hospital, she worked part time at Klechka Piano & Organ Co. for 19 years. In addition to the above churches, she was the musician for the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, Mission I Auxiliary, and the Central District Association for over twenty- five years.
Obie was preceded in death by both parents and her spouse, Emerson A. Sheets. She leaves to cherish her memory, six children: Eddie B. Smith (Wife Rita), Lovie D. Wright (Husband Robert), Nettie R. Jessie (Husband deceased), Beverly D. Myles (Husband Tommie), Karen V. Roston, and Michael E. Sheets (Wife Theresa). She was blessed with 16 grandchildren: Adrian Smith (Wife Lisa), Michael Smith (Wife Javarier), Melanie R. Jessie, Erika D. Jessie-Washington (Husband Caleb), Michael Tyrone Glover (Wife Precious), Linton Roston Jr., Brittney Roston, Marcus Sheets, Miai Crosby (Husband Brandon), Jarrod Sheets (Wife Sarah), Alexa Sheets and Micah Sheets, and by a marriage - Robert Wright, Jr., Robyn Wright, Rev. Dr. Virginia Wright, and Nisha Wright-Cavanaugh (Husband Robert). She has 20 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren.
