Obituary

On April 27, 2024, God sounded his trumpet, and angels descended and touched the soul of our beloved, saying well done thy good and faithful servant. Alvin S. Turner was born in Homeville, Virginia, on July 11, 1952, to Leslie Turner and Mary Virginia Vincent Turner.

Alvin attended Riverview High School in Courtland, Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country as a Generator Repairman from 1973 to 1980. Shortly after his return, Alvin met the love of his life, Mirinda Jones Turner. 1982, they married and lived most of their lives in Suffolk, Virginia. A diligent worker, he dedicated many years as an electrician for Virginia State University, Newport News Shipyard, Naval Air Station Oceana, and Norfolk Naval Shipyard. In 2009, Alvin retired from his position as a Process Improvement Coordinator.

Some of his favorite pastimes include spending time with family, dining out, drawing, photography, and watching the Raiders play football. He was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, tribal leader of the Nephtali tribe, and member of the Sound Ministry and Couples Ministry. Alvin truly epitomized having never met a stranger. He had a special way of comfortably engaging new friends. An avid lover of people, he used every opportunity to minister and continued to do so even through his failing health. After his health began declining, Alvin and Mirinda moved to College Station, Texas. Here, the two settled for the last three years, getting to see more of his daughters and grandchildren. Alvin, affectionately known as Al, Uncle Al, and Papa, is greatly missed and survived by his wife Mirinda, daughters Shirlitta Salang (Sal), and LaKeesha Walden (Vince), brother Howard Turner, sister Mary Anne Bradford, grandchildren; Jacobi Satsatin, Vince Walden Jr., Zach Walden, Kari Walden, and great-granddaughter Vasiliki Mitchell.

The Celebration of Life Service is Monday, May 6, 2024, 11:00 AM at Jones & Washington Mortuary, 508 E Martin Luther King Jr. St., Bryan, Texas, 77803. Viewing will be held on Sunday, 2 PM - 5 PM
